Troy-Bilt has been making lawn tractors for decades. A variety of features are available in the Troy-Bilt lawn tractor line up, which consists of five different models. Troy-Bilt is built by MTD, the company that makes a variety of mower brands.Troy-Bilt tractors can be considered as low cost introductory machines for the first time homeowners, up to an upper mid-grade machine for those customers looking for more advanced options. Some of the more expensive features available as options include electric PTO, hydrostatic transmissions, and anti scalp wheels on the cutting deck.

All the Troy-Bilt lawn tractors feature ‘3 in 1’ as an added option, which allows for side discharge, mulching, or rear bagging for the grass clippings ( this does not come standard). The deck cutting height is adjusted manually using a lever.

The front axles on Troy-Bilt tractors is fabricated of steel on the three cheaper models, and cast iron on the two most expensive versions. Cast iron is by far the sturdiest material available for a lawn tractor front axle.

The deck design on all the Troy-Bilt lawn tractors feature the ‘step through’ design. This eliminates any obstructions in front of the drivers seat. This allows for easy entry and exit from the tractor without the need to lift feet and legs over a raised portion of the frame.

Troy-Bilt lawn tractors are available in 5 model series - the Horse; Range Rider; Super Bronco; Bronco; and Pony. The Horse is more expensive, and is equipped with a larger engine and automatic transmission. The Pony has the lowest price, and comes with the smallest engine and fewest features. A twin cylinder engine is not available on any of the Troy-Bilt machines.

The Pony LT comes equipped with 17.5 HP single cylinder side valve Briggs and Stratton engine, lubricated by a splash system ( no replaceable filter to clean the oil). The transmission is a 7 speed manual shift. The steel front axle allows for a tight 18” turning radius. A twin blade cutting deck is engaged with a manual PTO, and leaves a 42” swath across the yard. The price for this tractor is an economical $1100.00.

The Bronco LT comes equipped with 18 HP single cylinder side valve Kohler engine, lubricated by a pressurized oil system that features a replaceable oil filter. The transmission is an automatic shift gear design. The steel front axle allows for the standard 18” turning radius. A twin blade cutting deck is engaged with a manual PTO, and has a 42” cut. The price for this tractor is about $1300.00.

The Super Bronco LT comes equipped with 20 HP single cylinder side valve Kohler engine, lubricated by a pressurized oil system that features a replaceable oil filter. The transmission is once again an automatic shift gear design, with cruise control. The steel front axle allows for the standard 18” turning radius. A triple blade cutting deck is engaged with a manual PTO, and has a wider 46” cut. The added features increase the price of this tractor to about $1500.00.

The Range Rider LT comes equipped with 20 HP single cylinder overhead valve (OHV) Kohler engine, lubricated by a pressurized oil system that features a replaceable oil filter. The transmission is a hydrostatic design, with cruise control. The cast iron front axle is the strongest material available, and features the standard 18” turning radius. A twin blade cutting deck is engaged with a manual PTO, and has a 42” cut. Count on spending about $1700.00 for this mid-grade machine.

Top of the line is the Horse LT , which comes equipped with 22 HP single cylinder overhead valve (OHV) Kohler engine, lubricated by a pressurized oil system that features a replaceable oil filter. The transmission is an automatic shift gear design. The sturdy cast iron front axle has a wider 21” turning radius. A triple blade cutting deck is engaged with an electric PTO, and boasts a generous 50” cut. Anti scalp deck wheels are standard. The price for the top of the line Troy-Bilt is about $2000.00.

Most customers that purchase a Troy-Bilt lawn tractor seem to be pleased with their choice, based on very good customer reviews.
