MTD Lawn Mower Review

In the beginning, MTD lawn mowers did not exist. The MTD company was founded in 1932, and remains a family owned private company. The original products MTD produced were tool and dies. In the 1930’s, they started producing automotive parts. By the early 1950’s, MTD was manufacturing pedal bikes and playground equipment.

In the year 1958, the production of an 18 inch rotary mower started. By 1959, the lawn mower line was expanded, with a self propelled mower being offered




Over time, the MTD line expanded as competitor brands were acquired. Today MTD owns about 18 different well known brands, and manufactures mowers for about 30 other mower brands. For instance, the lower cost Toro mowers are manufactured by MTD.

Since so may brands are manufactured by MTD, a review of each is not practical. Listed below are the more popular brands manufactured by MTD.
